Don’t worry, here you’ll have a nice time during your Spanish course. ELE USAL Alicante organice several leisure and cultural activities. You’ll learn more about Spanish culture. Some of these activities are free with our courses “all inclusive”

IN ALICANTE CITY

 

1. GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF THE CITY (every Monday afternoon)
  • We welcome our new students every Monday and show them around the city. Our guided tours starts from ELE USAL Alicante (Rambla Méndez Núñez, 37) and takes you through the heart of the city, including the Old Town, the famous “Explanada de España” (Esplanade), the City Hall, the Co-Cathedral of Saint Nicholas and Saint Mary’s Church, the Central Market and the shopping area.

2. GUIDED VISIT TO SANTA BÁRBARA CASTLE (every other Tuesday)
  • Originally built in the late 9th century, Santa Bárbara Castle is one of Spain’s largest mediaeval fortresses. Located 166 meters (544 ft.) above sea level, Santa Bárbara Castle has amazing panoramic views of Alicante and Postiguet Beach. The castle is home to the Alicante City Museum, a must-see to learn about the past of this millenary city.

3. GUIDED VISIT TO THE ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM OF ALICANTE (MARQ) AND THE MUSEUM OF HOGUERAS (every other Wednesday)
  • A visit to the MARQ, awarded The Best European Museum of 2004, will help you understand better the history of Alicante and the civilizations that once inhabited this land.
  • THE MUSEUM OF HOGUERAS walks you through the most international festival in Alicante, called ¨Las Hogueras de San Juan¨, celebrated in late June. The Hogueras are big monuments made of cardboard and wood. They are placed all over the city for a week until being burnt down at night on June 24th. If you are not going to be in Alicante on that day, a visit to this museum will give you an idea of this spectacular festival.

4. CYCLING TOUR: ESPLANADE, MARINA AND POSTIGUET BEACH (every other Wednesday)
  • This tour will show you Alicante’s window to the Mediterranean Sea. On ¨Esplanade¨, you will find some of the most emblematic buildings in the city. At Marina, you can see the reproduction of one of the ships that took Columbus to America. And Postiguet is one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. We´ll go on this route by bicycle.

5. NIGHT OF FLAMENCO (every other Thursday)
  • This is an enjoyable way to get started in flamenco dancing, while also enjoying some tapas and our most popular wines.
  • Price: 18 € / person. FREE for students of our “All-inclusive programme”

 

6. COOKING PAELLA (every other Thursday)
  • Paella is an internationally-known dish from Spain. We will show you how to cook paella step by step and later will enjoy it together. Don’t forget to take notes so that you can impress your family and friends back home.

IN THE AREA ROUND ALICANTE

 

1. VISIT TO WINERY AND WINE TASTING
  • Alicante is a land of vineyards and excellent wines. We will visit a beautiful winery located in one of the best wine-producing areas in the Alicante region and we will learn about how to make wines. Later on we´ll have some wine with classical tapas.
  • Price: 55 € / person.

 

2. ARTISAN SWEETS TOUR
  • The Spanish turrón (made of almonds and honey) is an internationally-known sweet from Alicante. Xixona is the main place to produce this sweet, so we will visit a factory run by small family in Xixona and will chat with the family about their business for centuries.
  • In the afternoon, we will travel to Villajoyosa, a charming and historic town that stretches along a lovely, wide and sandy beach. We will also visit a small family-run chocolate factory there, and will walk around this historic village.
  • Price: 50 € / person.

 

3. OLIVE OIL TOUR
  • High-quality olive oil has been produced in the Alicante region for centuries. We will visit a family-run “almazara” (the Spanish word for mill) and will learn about the cultivation of olives and the process of making olive oil, also known as “liquid gold”. At the end of the tour we will taste different kinds of olive oil.

4.  SNORKELLING IN TABARCA ISLAND
  • Tabarca is a small island not far from Alicante. It used to be a shelter for pirates and a defence fortress. Now its population is less than 100 people. In 1986, the island and its surrounding waters were declared as a protected marina and bird reserve, which attracts scuba divers and snorkelers to swim with a large number of fishes and marine life. We will explore the island and enjoy the snorkelling to discover the beauty of this island’s marine life.

5. CANELOBRE CAVES TOUR
  • As one of the most spectacular caves in Europe, the Canelobre Caves are located in the village of Busot, 700 meters above sea level and on the hillside of Mountain Cabeçó d’Or. In this tour, we´ll discover amazing sculptures that water has carved for thousands of years.

6. SERRA GELADA SAILING TOUR
  • Serra Gelada is located between Benidorm and Altea. We will sail along the cliffs and coves of this nature reserve which was once a shelter for pirates. If we are lucky, we’ll have the company of dolphins.
