Alicante is home to one of the Spanish Schools of the University of Salamanca, a world leader in the teaching and certification of Spanish as a Foreign Language.

In 1492, the USAL published the first Grammar of the Castilian Language by Antonio de Nebrija, promoting Spanish. Since then, the University of Salamanca has worked to promote the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
